Body Mind and Spirit Connection |

Body mind and spirit connections are important because we are ‘whole’ organisms. We can’t affect one of these aspects of ourselves without influencing the others. This is good news because it means we always have a variety of ways to help ourselves. For example, one person might have persistent headaches and just not be able to find a medication that helps. They then go on holiday and start eating a very different diet, missing out dairy products, and within a few days find that their headaches have gone. How does that work? The food we eat influences us at many levels and for some people an intolerance to a food will cause body pain. That won’t be true for another person and for them doing a yoga class may be the best way to shift their headaches. Body mind and spirit connections are unique for every person. This is just one example of many amazing ways in which the ‘whole’ of us can be used to make a difference to our health, well being and emotional state. Body mind and spirit connections work in many ways and the way that many people know about this is through understanding that what we believe influences what we feel and how we behave. A well known saying goes along the lines of ‘if we think we can: we can. And if we think we can’t: we can’t. It is all in the state of mind’. What goes on in our minds makes a big difference to how we feel about a situation. If i believe people are competitive and out to look after themselves first and foremost I am going to feel angry – or sad – or excited when i see that being acted out. Like when someone pushes in front of us in a traffic line. Different people feel different things depending what they believe about that person’s behaviour. Then depending on that belief you either cut them off at the next traffic light, laugh and forget it, or complain about it to the next person you meet. Just think what a difference it would make if you had a positive, useful set of beliefs about many things. It would make all the difference to your body mind and spirit connections. And to your behaviour and the way you feel.
Some people find the use of the term ‘spirit’ in the phrase body mind and spirit connections uncomfortable. However we use the term having high spirits or being low spirited in our everyday language and it does seem to play a part in our overall experience of joy and delight in the world. So if we can do something new and different with our body or our beliefs we can feel in different spirits as a result.
Body mind and spirit connections are another way of thinking about our self esteem. Positive body mind and spirit connections are necessary for sound self esteem because it means we are working in harmony and feeling good about ourselves.
